Introduction to Ergonomics

Ergonomic Approach

The ergonomic approach is used to study the problems related to human work and proposes solutions to optimize the human-machine-environment.

In particular, concerning working activity in general, the goals of the ergonomic approach are to:

  • increase the quality of the surrounding conditions, the working means and the performance of the operator - the principals of applied anthropometrics should guide those who design equipment, machines, tools, workplaces and all other devices that are handled by an operator;
  • prevent occupational diseases and raise the psychological and physical comfort of the operator - it is fundamental to utilize instruments for “risk detection” that, for a specific work task, are able to determine and verify the level of risk associated with the task.
